The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to frame up and arrest key opposition leaders.
Those listed for arrest, according to the party, are its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus as well as the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogora.
PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, in a statement, accused the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu of turning himself into a willing tool to carry out the APC script to cage and crush the PDP before the general elections.
The PDP National Chairman added that aside arrest and detention of opposition leaders, their family members and business associates have been listed for intimidation and harassment including freezing their business interests and their bank accounts.
He described as an afterthought, the EFCC denial that the son of the PDP presidential candidate was not the target in the raid of an apartment housing him in Abuja.
Prince Secondus recalled that the party’s presidential candidate was on November 11 searched at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by operatives of the state on his return from overseas.READ ALSO: Kwankwaso Declares Full Support For Atiku, Peter Obi Ticket [PHOTOS]
“They followed it up with the freezing of the bank account of our vice presidential candidate as well as that of his friends and family members as part of a large scheme to keep the party distracted from its focus of regaining power in 2019,” he added.
According to him, the script was to bring PDP to its knees before the general elections.
He, however, warned that the party would not succumb to any plan to intimidate and cow opposition members or rig next year’s general elections.
The PDP National Chairman further warned the EFCC Chairman and others who might be used by the APC in undermining democracy in the country to be mindful of the consequences.READ ALSO: Saraki Visits Victims Of Lafia Gas Explosion
He also called on the international community to rein in President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to observe the tenets of democracy that respects the sanctity of the opposition and human rights.
According to him, Nigeria is sitting on a keg of a gunpowder, alleging that the APC government was using instruments of state to harass and intimidate opponents.
