South African man to be sentenced for raping and killing his 85-year-old grandmother
A forty-year-old man has been arrested for the rape and murder of his grandmother.
Morena Petrus Mofokeng broke into the house of a 50-year-old woman and raped and killed her. Evidence taken from the scene linked him to the rape of his own 85-year-old grandmother a couple of months prior.
Morena of Paballong Village in QwaQwa, South Africa, raped and killed the 50-year-old woman in October 2012. Two years before that, in October 2010, his grandmother had been raped and died a week after but the case was provisionally withdrawn due to a lack of evidence. However, the charges were reinstated when DNA evidence taken from his recent victim proved that he was also his grandmother’s assailant.
According to reports by African News Agency (ANA), Morena was convicted by the High Court presiding at Thabo Mofutsanyana District Justice Centre in Phuthaditjhaba on Tuesday.
He will be sentenced today, according to a statement by the Free State police.
”He will be sentenced on two counts of rape, and one count of murder on Thursday”.
