President Buhari reportedly travels to London for medical appointment

The presidency has released pictures showing the moment President Muhammadu Buhari departed New York for London in what some have described as another scheduled medical appointment with his doctors.

The president is expected to return to Nigeria after his transit to London. However the presidency has declined to state if Buhari’s trip is medically related. Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said he could not state if the was going to see his doctors in London.

‘’I cannot confirm to you. I am in Abuja right now I cannot speak on what I don’t know, nobody has communicated with me,” he told Premium Times on Thursday, September 21, in a telephone conversation.

The last time Buhari departed for London on medical leave, he spent 105 days receiving treatment.

His absence led to protests by some Nigerians who called for the president to resign on health grounds. But calls for the president’s resignation was dismissed by the presidency and the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari had arrived New York on Sunday, September 17, to meet with other world leaders at the 72nd session of United Nations General Assembly where he addressed world leaders.

Buhari met with President Donald Trump of the US on Wednesday, September 20, on the side-line of the United Nations General Assembly. In a post on his official Facebook page, President Buhari revealed that they discussed the US’ support for Nigeria especially in the area of corruption and terrorism.

He appreciated Trump’s call to him in London and for also fulfilling promise of supplying arms to support the fight against Boko Haram. Buhari also met with his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Addo, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
