Poetry: Gone forever!
Just yesterday
The girl next door
She begged for just five minutes
Make me smile my Angel
Far be it from me
I barely know you and duties are calling
For the umpteenth time she begged
For the umpteenth time I refused
And then she locked her door
Her bolt though rusty fastened tight
Mama Nneka’s akara wasn’t enough to make her budge
I can swear with grandpa’s ikenga
Her favourite it was
And then this morning
With a tray of freshly plucked guava
I knocked and knocked
My knuckles fought my will
Still I kept knocking
But Adamma was gone
With eyes watery and guilt so red
I saw her note
‘Don’t expect me back love’
Now i wish I listened…Adamma was gone forever!
