Odili Declares Wike ‘Super Action Governor’
Former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has described Governor Nyesom Wike as ‘a super action governor who continues to rapidly develop Rivers’.
Odili made the remark yesterday, when he commissioned the new Doctors’ Quarters constructed by Wike’s administration, at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The construction of the quarters was flagged off by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on February 13, 2017, in fulfilment of the pledge Wike made to doctors at the specialist hospital.
The former governor said the commissioning of the quarters was unique, as it exemplifies the governor’s commitment to healthcare delivery.
Odili urged the doctors to reciprocate the commitment of Wike by improving service delivery and stopping endless strikes.
“We are proud of Wike; he is a lawyer by training and practice, but, what he has done for the health sector shows he is a medical doctor, spiritually.
“For the way he has honoured the former commissioner for Health, Dr. Dina Denni-Fiberesima, of blessed memory, and those who served the state, Wike will be honoured for his service to the state,” Odili said.
On his part, Wike said his administration built two of the new structures and remodelled the third building to give the doctors a befitting accommodation.
He renamed the doctors quarters as Dr. Dima Denni-Fiberesima Doctors’ Quarters, to honour the former health commissioner for his service to the state. He further promised that his administration will release the residency funds for the payment of resident doctors in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Wike has said he is committed to executing people-oriented projects because the residents deserve the best from his administration.
He said this after he was honoured with the Award of Excellence in Good Leadership, by the Peoples Club of Nigeria International, in Port Harcourt.
The governor, who spoke through the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Sylvanus Nwankwo, assured the people that he remains focused to deliver more projects.
Wike also congratulated Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, who was honoured with him, for his philanthropic services to the people of Rivers and beyond.
He said: “If all politicians and captains of industry will protect and work for the interest of the people, instead of seeking who to pull down or destroy, this state will be a better place.”
Earlier, presenting the awards as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of Port Harcourt branch of the club, Chairman of the club, Ebere Owhonda, said the group is a non-political association and its awards were not for any political reasons, but to promote diligence.
Owhonda said: “Peoples Club is an exclusive, elite social club of the most distinguished and eminent Nigerians, who appreciate the good things of life.
“Port Harcourt branch is a very innovative, unique and reformed branch of the club. We are non-profit, non-political and non-partisan. Our mission is to offer our members comfortable environment, where they will grow and prosper socially. Our affairs are devoid of occultism, politics, personal acrimony or animosity, ethnicity and racism.”
