Obiano reelection bid suffers setback as 4000 APGA loyalists decamp to PDP

No fewer than 4000 members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in two local government areas in Anambra state have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) barely two weeks to the November 18, governorship election.

The decampees included 1,775 APGA members in former governor Peter Obi’s Anaocha local government area and about 2,000 others in the neighboring Awka-south local government area.

One of the decampees and former APGA chairman of Anaocha local government, Ifeanyi Orji, who led members of the party in the area to decamp to the PDP, said they were forced to join PDP due to the lopsided nature of development in their areas under the current administration.

“The state used to take the first position in both NECO and WASC examinations nationwide. The situation has suddenly changed to the extent that the state is currently being relegated to the seventh position.

“We have decided to join you in PDP because we know your contributions in the success stories of APGA government when Chief Peter Obi, Okwute Ndigbo was our governor. You were SSG then, so we have the trust that you will work like Peter Obi”, Orji stated.

Another defector, a former leader of the Awka-North local government legislative council, Hon. Sam Obi led the APGA members in that local government to join PDP at St. Thomas Anglican Church playground, Ebenebe.

Addressing the crowd at Agulu, the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Osaeloka Obaze, explained that he was forced to seek to govern the state so as to save the state from the bad governance the current administration had plunged it.
