CHAN 2018: Angola was difficult, Yusuf confesses
Home based Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf, says that they never underestimated the Angolans, declaring that the match was the most difficult for his side in the CHAN 2018 tournament.
Yusuf led his side to a 2-1 win over the Palancas Negras on Sunday as they secured a spot in the semifinals.
“We never underestimated Angola, they play good football and are a good team but the important thing was to win and we won.
“The game was the most difficult for us in the tournament as we fought for 90 minutes against a good team,” said Yusuf to the CAF website.
Meanwhile, Eagles winger Sunday Faleye has been ruled out for four weeks and as such will play no further role in CHAN 2018 after he dislocated his elbow against Angola just as doctors are expected to confirm the fitness of injured defender Kalu Orji who suffered a rib injury.
Faleye landed badly on his hand and was later forced out of the CHAN quarterfinal against Angola in the 59th minute.
Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung has on his part congratulated the team for qualifying for the semi finals of the African Nations Championship, CHAN.
The Minister praised the team for putting up a good fight against the Angolans urging them to reinforce their dominance in African football and get to the final.
“Congratulations on your successful outing so far in the African Nations Championship. You still have two more hurdles to bring the trophy to Nigeria . I urge you to maintain your commitment, hard work and discipline and go all the way to win the trophy”
