Arsene Wenger Drops Biggest Bombshell
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has revealed that Gunners transfer target, Jamie Vardy of Leicester City will indeed stay on with the Premier League champions.
Although Gunners triggered the £20million release clause in the striker’s contract earlier this month, Wenger has now confirmed that he expects Vardy to remain at the King Power Stadium.
He said: “Jamie Vardy is, at the moment at Leicester and from what I know he will stay at Leicester.”
But Vardy, who smashed 24 goals for the Premier League-winning Foxes last season, was remaining tight-lipped when quizzed on his future on Saturday.
Vardy grabbed a vital equaliser as a substitute in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Wales.
“No, nothing. I am here completely focused on England,” he said when asked about his future at the weekend.
Vardy also confirmed he hadn’t spoken to boss Roy Hodgson about any transfer speculation.
“I want to stay focused. We’re here to represent England and that’s all I want to think about.”
Vardy’s comments come shortly after vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha revealed Leicester are increasingly confident they can keep hold of their top scorer.
But Srivaddhanaprabha told the Daily Mail: “You will see the news very soon, but I think he will stay.
“I think so, let’s see. We need to build the team. We keep continuing to believe that we can do something special in the Premier League and the Champions League.
“The Champions League is going to be amazing for Leicester, so let’s see. Leicester is the underdog and we can still be the underdog.”
