APC releases timetable and list of aspirants ahead of upcoming Anambra governorship election
– Senator Osita Izunaso, the APC national organizing secretary, expressed utmost confidence that the party would win the election
– Izunaso also inaugurated a 7-man screening committee for the aspirants chaired by the deputy governor of Ondo state Agboola Ajayi, during the meeting
– The APC national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, also urged the aspirants to state their needs, even as he assured them of a level playing field
An election timetable for the November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra state has been released by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to reports, this development was made public on Wednesday August 9, at a meeting between the 12 governorship aspirants and the leadership of the party at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.
plusmilang.com notes that senator Osita Izunaso, the APC national organizing secretary, who spoke during the meeting, expressed confidence that the ruling party would win the election.
Addressing the national chairman of the party John Odigie-Oyegun, he stated: “Mr. Chairman, the aspirants are on the field moving round the entire state, canvassing votes not only for the primaries but for the main election.
“They have been able to sensitize the state and I am sure that at the end of the day, God being on our side, we will win that election.”
Izunaso announced the events on the timetable as follows:
Screening of aspirants (Thursday 10th – Friday 11th August, 2017)
Screening Appeal (Monday 14th – Tuesday 15th August 2017)
Primary Election (Saturday 19th August, 2017)
Primary Election Appeal (Monday 21st August, 2017).
The 12 aspirants vying for the party’s governorship ticket are

A 7-man screening committee for the aspirants chaired by the deputy governor of Ondo state Agboola Ajayi, was also inaugurated.
The remaining 6 members of the committee are Hon. Dattuwa Ali Kumo; Barr. Awele Nwoko; Vice Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim; Sen. Usman Wowo; Hon. Halims Agoda and Alhaji Ba’aba Umar.
Also speaking at the event, the APC national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun told the aspirants: “I decided that I should meet with you and know you more formally, have an interactive session with you because we do hear a lot of things and we hope that if there are any gaps or anything you want us to do which we haven’t done, this will be the opportunity to put this down, to vocalize them, and we will see what we can do.
“What is important is that I want you to make me happy.
“I want you to be satisfied that we are going to have a truly free, fair primaries and a very level playing ground. That is the main purpose for this meeting.”
Meanwhile, plusmilang.com previously reported that Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra state, took a swipe at John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over comments made by the latter concerning the upcoming elections in the state.
Obiano was reacting to a comment attributed to Oyegun, that the governor should “write his handing-over notes and start preparing to vacate office.”
