Abia State House Of Assembly Speaker Allegedly Orders Security Officers To Shoot FRSC Officials
Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Chikwendu Kalu, has been accused of ordering his security detail to shoot two officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on patrol along Umuikaa/Aba- Port Harcourt Express yesterday July 15th. According to reports, trouble started when the FRSC officials stopped the SUV that was being used to convey the wife of the speaker because some of the occupants weren’t wearing seatbelts. Eyewitnesses say the driver of the SUV had initially refused to stop but after driving to a distant, he stopped and reversed to meet the FRSC officials. A female DSS operative attached to the speaker reportedly came down from the SUV, held the FRSC officials by the shirt and began attacking them, accusing them of hitting their vehicle. It is alleged that the wife of the speaker also came down to attack the FRSC officers.
When the speaker was called by his wife, he reportedly stormed the scene with some police officers and allegedly ordered that the officers shoot the FRSC officials. The road safety officers were beaten up and left injured on the road. Passersby helped them to the hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations officer of FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, said the matter is being handled administratively and has been reported to the state’s Commissioner of Police.
